so, even now, atari still sux. yeah its cool and all because it is still one of the first gaming systems out there, but i went and bought a $30 atari system from walmart, which had 40 games programmed into the system, and after about a month of having it, the graphics, color and sound is already screwed up. its still playable, but everything is distorted. so, even in this day and age, they still aren’t able to fix the minor details that are still messing up. its kinda annoying.
I have the 5800. Its the red headed stepchild of the Atari’s. Its gigantic. It has wierd controllers with numeric keypads on them. It still looks like crap, but its also still working and fun to play. I think I got it for $15 from the kid across the street. Sucker. I should see if I can sell it to some crazy-Mc-crazypants on eBay.

If it is an Atari joystick with the games built in, it is probably overheating. The cables are analog and wouldn’t cause the sprites to get screwed up and the sound to go to playing waveforms from the code segment.

I actually have two Atari’s. Both 2600’s. One is 1977 2nd Gen console, the other is the 1986 2600 Jr. Both still work fine. I assume you’re talking about the newer Flashback 2.0. It might just be the A/V cable thats bad. Those don’t seem to be products of the highest quality. If all else, return/exchange it.
