New Joker, Newly Dead
The actor Heath Ledger was found dead this afternoon in an apartment building at 421 Broome Street in SoHo, according to the New York City police. Mr. Ledger was 28.
At 3:31 p.m., a masseuse arrived at Apartment 5A in the building for an appointment with Mr. Ledger, the police said. The masseuse was let in to the home by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of Mr. Ledger’s bedroom. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom and found Mr. Ledger unconscious. They shook him, but he did not respond. They immediately called the authorities.
The police said they did not suspect foul play. Officials said pills were found near the body.
Not that I care too much. I never seen a movie of his that I’ve thought that was great. A Knight’s Tale was OK and Lords of Dogtown was decent. For some odd reason I’ve never seen Brokeback.
So, I hope he goes down as a great Joker but I doubt it. Cesar Romero & Jack Nicholson are some pretty big shoes to fill.
Plus, a little side note no one knows, Mark Hamill is the voice of the Joker in the Batman and Superman animated series.
I feel kinda like an asshole when the first thought through my head after hearing that someone has died is “Oh shit, what’s that going to mean to The Dark Knight?!?” But, I’m a Batman fan from way back, and I just can’t help it.
Depending on what you read, you get a different answer. Some say he was “due to appear as Joker” others say, “just finished filming”. IMDB says it’s in post production, so I assume his part is over and the movie will go on as planned. PHEW!!
Even if they’re not quite done making the movie, Brandon Lee died while filming The Crow, and they salvaged that. Also, if they do need a few more shots of him for whatever reason, Joker takes enough make-up to make a look-alike believable.
