Got Cell Phone? Get Pulled Over!
It will soon be a lot easier for police to ticket motorists for hand-held cell phone calls and text messaging.

Starting Saturday, the use of hand-held cell phones or text messaging while driving becomes a primary offense, which means police officers don’t need another reason for stopping motorists before charging them with a cell-phone violation.

Violators of the law face fines ranging from $100 to $250.
Some think there shouldn’t be more laws to pull over people but I like this one. Just stay off the phone. That’s easier then not speeding or drinking and driving.

The only people I honk at are people on the phone and old people. The most dangerous people on the road are old people on cell phones.

Don’t give me the “It no different than holding coffee or smoking.” You’re not talking to the coffee or cigarette. And if you are, you shouldn’t have a license.

Happy Leap Day!

So a co-worker and I were having a discussion about when someone born on February 29th celebrates their birthday on a non-Leap Year, and I, of course, decided to go to the most trustworthy and knowledgeable of sources…. the internet!

Here is a (quite poorly designed) pretty informative site about Leap Year. It includes the history of, when to celebrate your birthday, random table charts on time, even a Leap Year Cocktail! (which I could totally go for right now with the morning I’ve been having, but that’s another subject entirely…)

Enjoy!

Stuff White People Like

I never knew but, it’s all true, mostly. I do love me some ___ ___ (Hint:#69). Not 69 with #69 but you know what I mean. I’ll just shut it before I dig a deeper hole. I also believe this is just a list and not a countdown to number 1.

Want Blu-Ray? Stop!

So, before you try to slit your throat for buying a HD DVD player, here are a couple things to note before you pick up a Blu-ray player.

Specs. Check the Blu-ray spec. There are 3 specs. Butt-hurting 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0 aka “Full Profile”.

You can probably expect to see 1.0 or the cheaper players.

The 1.1 spec is the mid grade. This is were the added picture-in-picture. Who effing uses PiP? Some movies come with features that allow footage to run concurrently with the movie using PiP. Cool but, no thanks. The spec on mine already makes white girls walk in the room talk so loud on their cell phone as if to not believe that technology does actually transmit your vioce across vast lands, makes Asians drop woks and clean rice bowls in the kitchen and allows the baddest band in the land, Cain Rose Up to rock in the basement.

The 2.0 profile, aka Blu-ray Disc Live, requires the player to have a secondary video decoder for picture-in-picture, a secondary audio decoder, 1GB of local storage, and an Internet connection. The internet connection is for easy firmware updates and access to Internet-based interactive content features.

But, if you like watching your 4:3 TV or 720p HDTV and connecting your DSL or cable internet, you’ll love 1.0 spec.

…And your little dog, too!

Well, if anybody hates little yappy dogs, this is the story for you:

With pictures, too… ick.

Floola

I was looking for a iTunes substitute and came across Floola. This is the app I suggest to everyone. It’s available for the Mac, Linux and Windows. The number one question I get about iPods is, well, I usually don’t even let anyone ASK the question per say. It usually goes something like this; “I’ve got a question for ya. I just bought an iPod…”, “There’s an auto-sync that you need to deselect so it’ll stop deleting songs off the iPod.” “Thanks!” So here it is…

On Snapfiles.
“]Floola is a freeware application to efficiently manage your iPod or your Motorola mobile phone (any model supporting iTunes). It’s a standalone application that can be run directly from your iPod and needs no installation under Linux, Mac OS X and Windows (Windows Vista is supported).

Floola supports all common used iPod features including artwork, podcasts and smart playlists! It’s also able to convert audio or video incompatible with the iPod so that you can copy almost any file to it. It even allows adding youtube and myspace videos just entering the page url!
800notes.com

Here’s another web site that I’ve used from time to time. If you get a call from an unknown number you can look up the number here to figure out who the F they were or wanted. The site is getting a little bigger and is starting to include news and articles. Just one more site you should know and use.

Catalog Choice

Here’s a site that not only “green”, meh, but you can opt-out of all those unwanted catalogs that get sent to your house. I personally don’t have any catalogs sent to me but, well, maybe an NHL one but it comes once a year and it’s 20 pages thin.

Lunar Eclipse (02/20/2008)

I fell asleep on the couch and just remembered about it. Since it snowed all over the DC area today I assumed it wouldn’t be visible. I looked up the timeline of the eclipse. The total eclipse was from 10:01-10:51PM. So I just barely made the window to see it. It was being streamed on Ustream.tv, although the stream wasn’t in sweet 1080p. I figured I’d just take the more difficult route of going outside and looking up. To my surprise, there wasn’t a cloud in site. This is similar to what I saw. So, I hope everyone else had the chance to see it tonight because, if you missed the one tonight, there’s an encore presentation on Dec. 21, 2010.
