It is impossible to buy the iPhone without a service plan, and twice as expensive to upgrade than advertised price if you are an existing customer and haven't already served a two year contract. So without qualification the iPod is always cheaper. Even before.

Yea but, lets say you wanted an iPod Touch. It would had been cheaper to buy an iPhone 3G and not get the service plan than just buying a 32GB iPod Touch. Which was my original point.

I'm already aware of how iPhone pricing works.

I want my own iPod Touch but I don't think I'm going to go for the new and shiny. There have been people on Craigs List trying to sell "Jailbroke" iPods for like $425+. Or trying to recoup some of the cost of their shitty downloaded song selections by advertising that there iPod comes with "1000+ song". 1000+ songs huh? I bet they're all ready hard to find classics. If I wanna hear Journey, Eurythmics, or MC Hammer I'll just turn on the radio. How about this, if you found that gem on iTunes, I don't wanna listen to it. 40,000,000 other people found that gem, too.

Yeah, its "half the price" ahahah. Ends up being more than the original iPhone within the span of the required 2 year contract. Since iPods have no service contract their price reflects reality rather than the BS "with contract" price.

They get you in monthly service charges. Cost point is low, so you can pay the phone bill. No monthly reoccurring revenue on an iTouch.
