2010 Camaro

Chevy unvelied plans for the new Camaro this week.

You can read the news at the Official site.

The Efficient V6 which boasts 302 horsepower and 27 MPG on the highway or still the preferred V8 model which has a much more preferred 422 horsepower and a not much lower 23 MPG on the highway. Doesn’t seem like that big of a difference for so much more.

Still sharp looking, go check out all the features. When I buy one; I want to race Neb in his Firebird.

My New Car!

I was in a red ‘01 Jetta. It was fine, I didn’t *need* a new car, but I really wanted one, so I got one. (new to me anyway)

2002 Audi TT quattro. 6 speed manual (I SO missed having a proper transmission)

And these are the wheels I want:

I kept the tag from the Jetta, it’s fitting enough being that the Audi is also German, but I’m eventually going to get some variation of “cherry pie” I’m thinking CHRY 3.14 (of course I’ll have to sharpie the decimal in, I used to draw and umlaut on my current one.

Yabba Dabba Ticket

All this thing is missing is a giant rack of ribs on the side.

Stupid cops, once again. Just because it’s shaped like a car. If his wife was as big as a cow, would she have to stay in the backyard, because it’s safer?

Jet Turbine-Powered Van

Pfft, everyone does this engine swap. It’s only a Dodge Caravan with a Rolls-Royce Nimbus helicopter jet turbine shoved in the back. 1,000 shaft HP @ 2,100 RPM. 1/8th of a mile at 103MPH in 7.14 seconds but it can do the 1/4 mile in 11.17 seconds and tops at 113mph. I’m sure if he adjusts the ratio on the rear axle, he can get closer to killing himself. Bad news is, if you’re picking up groceries, you can’t put your ice cream in the back.

My Daddy's Car Can Fly Thanks To The Power Of Poor Decisions

It’s one of those situations where you could see it coming on the terminal horizon from a mile away, and yet there’s absolutely nothing you could do about it.

“He posted on the BMW M5 forum — www.M5board.com — as ‘AmericanM5,’ the proud new owner of a 2008 BMW M5 painted Space Gray.

He had a problem. It happened when he had ‘everything set to max’ and changed gear with the shift paddles mounted on the steering wheel. As he said, ‘and I’m going pedal to the metal pushing 140 and upshifting, there tends to be a thud noise with the gear change.’ AmericanM5 wanted to know if this was normal.

And he added: ‘Let me say I am a beginner when it comes to high-performance cars as I am only 18, so take it easy on me.’”

[...]

Let’s see:

2008 BMW M5 painted Space Gray? Check!
Everything set to max? Check!
Pedal to the metal pushing 140 and upshifting? Check!
Beginner when it comes to high-performance cars? Check!
Only 18? Check!

Okay … to continue:

“The forum members told him that yes, the sensation of an abrupt gear engagement is normal with the M5’s automated sequential manual transmission, but several also took the opportunity to express their concerns.

Wrote one: ‘It’s just disturbing to know…that an 18-year-old who is asking these questions about a 500-horsepower car is driving the same streets I am. I don’t have anything against young guys driving nice cars, but an 18-year-old being [behind] the wheel of an M5 is what accidents are made of.’

AmericanM5 responded: I completely understand where you are coming from, assuming that I am irresponsible…that is definitely understandable. I do sometimes make bad decisions but I am young and I do drive safe and I will not endanger the lives of others.’

These posts were dated January 25, 2008.”

“It’s just disturbing to know…that an 18-year-old who is asking these questions about a 500-horsepower car is driving the same streets I am.” I’ll say!

“I completely understand where you are coming from, assuming that I am irresponsible…that is definitely understandable. I do sometimes make bad decisions but I am young and I do drive safe and I will not endanger the lives of others.” Of course you don’t!

I think we all know where this is going:

“At 3:30 a.m. on January 26, a 2008 BMW M5 painted Space Gray flew off the raised end of a runway at a private airport just outside Ocala, Florida, sailed 200 feet through the air and stuck a huge tree. The impact with the tree occurred 15 feet off the ground. Five young men, aged 18 to 20, were killed instantly.

Members of the M5Board began to put the pieces together. AmericanM5 said he was 18, had a 2008 M5 in Space Gray, and said he lived in the Ocala area. And he signed one of the posts, “Josh.”

The driver of the crashed M5 had been Josh Ammirato.”

Inspection Question….

hey you would prolly know the answer to this:

Will a car pass inspection with a cracked windshield? Mine’s cracked up the center….has been for a while, and is due for inspection this month…..I just need to know if I have to put down the $300 it’ll cost to replace the glass before i go in and not pass……Thanks!

also…one more car question while i’m here….my clutch is squeaking every time i let off of it….its not loose or anything….do i just need to oil it or what?? again, thanks for your answers.

Well, you pretty much summed everything up for me last night…..so unless anyone else has any suggestions or advice, i think i’m good. Thanks!

Okay, I swear this is the last time I’m updating this post……I just called the place where I usually get my oil changes done and my inspections done, the inspector told me: “As long as the crack in the windshield does not affect the visibility of the driver or the operation of the windshield wipers, then it WILL pass inspection.” Haha….proved you wrong, Boof. :-)

Windsheild Replacement

I’ve been meaning to price this. Just in general, it’s nice to know but, obviously it all depends on make and model. The one thing I did hear through the grapevine was that your insurance will pay for it.
4. Savings
A windshield replacement averages approximately $250-$500. GEICO will allow a repair at no cost to the policyholder, as long as they have comprehensive coverage. [web site]

You Pay No Deductible for Windshield Repairs
If both of the following conditions apply, you pay no deductible to have your windshield repaired:
1. You have Comprehensive coverage and have windshield damage that your policy covers.
2. Your windshield can be repaired safely rather than replaced. [web site]
So, it looks like I heard correctly. I don’t think I have Comprehensive though.

Gas mileage

So we just got back from our road trip to NoVA a couple weeks ago. I love the Cobalt! We filled up four times at $20-$25 each fill-up, each way. I have the digital info center on my dash, and the highest mpg I got was 38! incredible. highway miles are the best.
