Gran Torino (2008)

I overheard a couple of people talking about this movie at work today. I didn’t hear any specific opinions about the movie but the fact that I heard the movie mentioned, surprised me. So I thought I’d write a small review.

I haven’t reviewed a movie in a while. I figured, “Why not? People need to have my view push upon them!” Here we go.

Clint Eastwood is getting old. And if your a fan of Brian Haley, it won’t make a difference. I looked up Brian Haley on IMDB to get a “I-remember-him-from-that-show” reference but, he’s been on a lot of random crap. I only really remember him from his Nazi marching stand-up on Caroline’s Comedy Hour. OK, enough about Haley.

If you like Gran Torino’s, you won’t see too many scenes with one. Why would you like this movie? I don’t know. The story moves a little slow. There’s no surprise twists. But if you enjoy old man racism, you’ll love Gran Torino. Everyone once in a while Eastwood will drop a racist one-liner to make me chuckle.

Either you’ll like or hate this movie. I’m not sure what the barometer is. I thought it was decent. I’ll give this movie close to a B- equivalent, weather that be “3-1/2 stars” or “wait for it on cable”.

Transporter 3 (2008)

More “British” Jackie Chan style ass-kicking action. This time Statham has to deliver some chick some where but he doesn’t want to do it. So they slap a bomb-watch thing to his wrist and he can’t go over 75 feet away from the car or else kaboom! It looks OK. Nothing to stand in line for though but I believe the entertainment value will be on the mindlessly amusing side.

An American Carol (2008)

Been a minute since I’ve posted about a movie before it comes out. Or even a movie. I saw a trailer to this movie the other day. Seems like a spoof movie that people would enjoy. A lot of big names too. Kelsey Grammer, Robert Davi, Jon Voight, James Woods, Dennis Hopper and Leslie Nielsen. The lead is Kevin Farley, yes, Chris’ brother.

Mystery Team (2009)
And just like that, “Mystery Team,” the Derrick movie, is done shooting. …

What happens now? The post-production process: Dan edits, Donald composes the music. The color is tweaked and the sound is edited. It is a grueling process getting it from a bunch of footage to a watchable, funny movie. Then, once it’s done, we take it around and find somebody who wants to release it. It’s going to be a while, but we are excited about the product, and we think you’re going to like it.
Didn’t even realize this was going on since May.

The Dark Knight (2008)

Warning: Spoiler type talk. I dunno, maybe I’m done with Christian Bale as Batman. I heard people talking about how his voice was annoying as the bat. I noticed what they were talking about. And thank God Maggie Gyllenhaal is dead. I hate her, she’s just nasty looking. Not it!

I do like Aaron Eckhart. You might remember him from movies such as, “Thank You for Not Smoking” and “Meet Bill”. But he had that small side role like Sandman in “Spider-Man 3″.

As for the Joker. I thought Heath Ledger did a pretty descent job. I like him early on with his disappearing pencil trick. Also I would had had preferred a little more crazy laughter over tons an tons of lip licking.

I also saw this in IMAX. Which I’ve never seen anything in IMAX so I wasn’t sure what to expect. The city fly overs and some action scenes were full screen but most of the dialog was letterboxed. They should also upgrade the fullscreen IMAX from 4:3 to15:9 or 16:9. As for IMAX, all in all I wasn’t to impressed. I’ll stick with the Director’s Hall.

The X-Files: I Want to Believe (2008)

*fap *fap *fap … Gillian Anderson … *fap *fap *fap

SPOILERS BELOW … YOU HAVE BEEN ADVISED ….

It was suggested to me, on Sunday, that we go to a matinee showing of The X Files. I figured, “Meh, matinees are always cheaper than seeing the flick in the evening…” so off we went to the theater. In Georgetown. $10 for parking. $17 tickets. $11 popcorn and a large coke. That’s $38 total … for an X Files movie that shed absolutely no light what-so-ever on anything related to the X Files mythos. No alien invasion stuff, no hints to the whereabouts of Mulder’s sister though she was mentioned, only once or twice, in an obligatory context …

It went something like this:

A paedophile priest has visions of a missing FBI agent. They contact Scully, who’s working at a hospital to contact Mulder and have him help the FBI with the investigation. She goes to see him. They hang out with the FBI, the paedophile priest, at some point Mulder and Scully have sex but you don’t get to watch …. yadda yadda yadda …. more women are missing ….. there’s a pool ….. dogs barking …. Scully argues with Mulder about his obsession and she wants to break up with him …. Mulder uncovers a group of former soviet scientists who are cutting people’s heads off and putting them onto other people’s bodies …. their lab is guarded by a two headed pit bull …. or, it might have been a rottweiler with two heads one of which was a pit bull …. Mulder gets trapped there, Scully calls in Skinner, they shut the lab down, save a recent girl these men had kidnapped …. And then Scully cures a kid of a brain disorder he had with stem cell therapy ….

I just saved you 38 bucks. You’re welcome.

Gillian Anderson is still hot though.

Olga Olga Olga

Remember the hot nekkid russian girl from Hitman?

Olga!

She is going to be the next Bond girl. Hope she shows more skin than Eva Green. Hell I hope Eva Green decides to show more skin, maybe in the sequel to the Golden Compass…

But I must say, Olga is worthy of being a Bond girl.

Grayson (2004)

In lue of April 1st, and the fake Zelda movie trailer that’s been spreading like wild fire, I give you a different fake movie trailer that I watched yesterday. It was created by some fan boys back in ‘04. Even has it’s own IMDB listing. You can watch it here. (5:27) Hi-Res link. It’s pretty much the awesome.

Dan In Real Life (2007)

Steve Carell makes up for the fact that comic whore Dane Cook is in this movie. Cook doesn’t steal scenes in this movie. Well maybe a couple, when he tries to sing. The only other big names are Dianne Wiest of the “The Lost Boys” and John Mahoney of “Frasier” fame. I was waiting to see this even though its a family type movie. I thought it was a well thought out and smart movie. It made me laugh more times than I thought I would. There’s enough stupid humor to balance out the sappy make-girls-cry scenes at the end. Definitely worth a look.
