Cloverfield (2008)

I saw Cloverfield this afternoon. Initially, when I discovered several months ago that the movie wasn’t about CTHULHU tear-assing around Manhattan I was disappointed, but still curious … I thought “As long it isn’t another ‘Godzilla’, I’m happy” … and I was.

DO NOT expect anything from this movie other than death and destruction, and a cool monster. I walked into the theater expecting to see buildings toppling, people dying, and general chaos and I wasn’t disappointed. It was worth paying the matinee rate to see it on the big screen.

Another plus, is that the monster is amazing, they did an excellent job with it. It’s larger than life, but stops short of being entirely unbelievable; in the sense that I can imagine, and actually almost believe something like that living deep within the depths of the ocean.

I enjoyed the flick, but like I said, all I expected was a lot of chaos, and a cool monster. If you like death, destruction, cool monsters and irony, go see Clvoerfield.

The Brothers Solomon (2007)

It was a little better than I thought it was going to be. But I did expect a more of Duece Bigalow meets Knocked Up type movie. Some of the jokes were just easily obvious but it had it’s laughs. Lets say I wasn’t pissed after the movie ended.

The only thing that I felt the movie needed was more Lee Majors but then again, he did sign up to play the comatosed father. Plus, any movie with Chi McBride just can’t suck. He’s like the black Christopher Walken. They are like movie savers. They could remake Ishtar with McBride and Walken and it would be the baddest movie ever made. Bad meaning good.

Control (2007)

This is a black and white British movie about Joy Division but, mainly Ian Curtis. You may remember Joy Division for such hits as “Love Will Tear Us Apart” and ummm, that other one. I think mostly everyone confuses “Love Will Tear Us Apart” with The Cure.

The movie was surprisingly good. I little more lovey dovey shit than I care for but the band was only together for four years so, what else could the movie been about.

Stop reading now if you don’t know how the movie ends. The man issue I had was that it was a good movie then you realize dude dies at the age of 23. I don’t know if it was tragic or if the dude was just stupid. Granted he had his “fits” but. The band members said it was only after his death that they read his latest lyrics and were surprised they didn’t see it coming.

Would I watch it again. Maybe, it is two hours long though. I give it 7 out of 10 llamas.

AVP-R (2007)

Haven’t seen it yet…going on Friday to see it at the Imax….I’ve spent the whole last week and a half catching up on the Aliens and Predators series’. I just hope this one doesn’t suck.

Shoot 'Em Up (2007)

Here’s a movie filled with tons of action, cheesy one liners and ridiculous situations. If you have that one friend that will sit through a whole movie and nit pick everything, don’t watch this movie with them. There’s alot of “you gotta be kidding me” scenes in this movie and they are there on purpose. It a fun movie to watch. I’d watch it again.

I Am Legend (2007)

Eh. It was OK. Kinda dragged on for a sec. I don’t think I’d watch it again.

The Dark Knight (2008)

The new trailer and other junk.

Is it me or is Maggie Gyllenhaal just not cute?

Hitman (2007)

Wow.

I actually got out to the theater tonight (went out to dinner too…I might get spoiled) anyway, I digress…

We saw Hitman. I’m not a fan of the game, in fact, I’ve never played, but the trailer looked awesome. Hot assassin, guns-a-blazin’, lots of action *and* explosions…what’s not to love? That is MY kind of movie.

I loved the movie. I am interested to know what fans of the game thought, I’m not sure if it was anything close to being true to the game. One thing I did pick up, at one point when 47 crashed through a window into a hotel room, a couple kids were playing the video game. It was very fleeting, and I’m actually surprised I caught it.

Maybe the girls here can back me up (or maybe I’m alone on this) but a super hot, kick ass hitman with a gun in each hand lighting up a room…better than porn!

Speed Racer (2008)

Here’s the trailer. So far, to me it looks like “Dick Tracy” meets “BladeRunner” meets “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” meets “The Fast and the Furious”. I won’t judge it until I watch it.

One thing though, as I look at the Mach V. I can’t tell if it was a Firebird/Trans AM or Camaro or Corvette.

Hot Fuzz (2007)

Holy Shit!

This movie went instantly into my Top Five!

Hilarious!! I just saw it recently, I’m usually Johnny-come-lately on the movie scene. Having a small child makes it hard to see grown up movies, plus, $9.50?? Please! Few flicks will get me into the cinema, usually the James Bond movies and LOTR, Harry Potter, stuff like that, so pardon me if I’m late on this one, I just Netflixed it.

Anyway, see it, love it, laugh your ass off. I did.
